Learn more about our innovative approach

BookWork is currently in its study phase, actively recruiting for our study, and rewarding readers for their participation.

Below we outline the simple steps around how this works, and then provide further information for parents/guardians.

Step-by-Step: How BookWork Works

Step 1

Sign Up (Ages 14–18)

A teen (14-18 years old) with a younger sibling in their household (0-10 years old) signs up, with parental/guardian permission, with the BookWork reading program.

Step 2

Read + Record

The teen reads aloud to the younger listener in person, using their cellphone's audio recording app to record the reading session.

Step 3

Upload Your Recording

The teen then uploads their audio file to a private BookWork file repository.

Step 4

Verify Audio

The BookWork team uses the audio file to verify that the reading session has been completed, before issuing the teen with coins that can be converted to rewards.

Very

BookWork for Parents/Guardians

We operate in full transparency at BookWork, so we want parents/guardians to be informed about what BookWork is currently doing.

In this current study phase, we want to work out how our approach can scale to reach more readers. To do this, we are actively recruiting for this study. Parental/Guardian permission is required for the teen and young listener to participate in this study. When a teen registers interest, the parent/guardian will be contacted to gain all necessary permissions for participation prior to starting. This will also allow the parent/gaurdian to ask any questions they might have.

The audio recordings made by the teen will be analyzed by BookWork to make sure the reading has been completed with the younger listener. This will initially be done manually by our team and we may use technology to assist us. Once the recordings have been verified, the teen is rewarded for their participation. We may occasionally ask for optional feedback from parents and teens on their experience through surveys.

As a parent/guardian you can also initiate the sign up process for your teen/young listener when you are ready.
